Since leaving art college in 2005 I have always enjoyed the idea of capturing a ‘moment in time’ through photography and freezing a moment in film , translating those moments into an expressive piece of work through the nature of oil paint and abstraction.
Having recently attended workshops in the use of resin I found the immediacy of working with this medium that dries quickly (unlike the slow, rich layering of oil) a challenge and an opportunity to experiment. As a result I have created a series of work based on our changing planet. Using aerial photography captured from film and tv I have transferred these images onto paper in watercolour and used these as a source to realise how our planet may look in years to come.
I enjoy the juxtaposition of the two ways of working allowing me freedom to explore and develop my painting further.
